Damages Deposits
Posted by: Blogmother @ 9:46 am
  1. Dordogne Property Managers Says:
We have to totally agree with the necessity of taking a damage/cleaning deposit. We spend our Summer caretaking for many English owned holiday homes and we are finding that the standard of cleaning being done by the guests on departure is getting worse. It seems a sad sign of the times that standards are dropping. We find particularly that often it is the two families with small children who are unable, or unwilling, to clean up after themselves. Damage to property is often hidden or covered up thinking that we will not notice it - believe me, we do!! So please take care of the property you are renting, it is someone’s home and there will be people coming in after you who will also want to enjoy the property at its best.

Comments on your holidays spent here

As a holiday home owner it would be great to learn what we owners do well or not so well when you holiday in our houses. Feedback is everything, it helps us to improve our standards. Having said that, the cost of maintaining our houses is very high and our rental season is not very long so we owners are restricted by market forces of rental return. One example is that a heated pool is great but how many people are willing to pay an additional 100 euros a week for that?

It would be nice to hear from visitors to this beautiful region of France about the best places to visit and how much they enjoyed their holiday. Will you come back and if not, why?

I am going to take the opportunity here of commenting on the requirement by owners of holiday homes for a damages/excessive cleaning deposit. Every renter is entitled to expect that when they arrive that a previous renter has not left a trail of chaos behind them. The owners have between 6 and 8 hours to completely clean the houses, and to put right any damage, on changeover day . Please believe me this can sometimes be a challenging task, on occasions I have had to scrape food off the floors with a scraper before I could vacuum and wash the floors! The only way we can protect your enjoyment of the house you have booked is to insist on a damages deposit from all holiday renters. Most incoming families understand this, after all it is common sense, but in the last couple of years I have had a few people who have been quite indignant that this is required and it can provoke an unpleasant atmosphere. So when we, the owners, ask you for the deposit when you arrive please do not be offended or take it personally. Please read when booking your holiday home the full details supplied by the owners so that this requirement, if it exists, is known to you.
It would be interesting to have comments from other owners on this subject.

Meter Reading
Posted by: Blogmother @ 10:59 am

Holiday home owners!! Paying by direct debit? Don’t have an outside meter? Not there to get your meter read? The EDF are using a very interesting technique to make you sit up and PAY attention. If notify them of your own meter reading ( to your advantage) they put the counter back to zero for calculation basis and this can mean a whopping direct debit. I have just had a direct debit through my bank twice for 5000+ euros. This was done twice despite phone calls, the second time after a reading by them! They actually owe me 1000+ euros. So when you are here make an appointment for a meter reading on a regular basis or have an outside meter installed. The Water company has done the same thing to friends of ours
