Over many years I have had really great holiday guests from all over the world in our property but I am sad to say that we have had some horrors! I have often thought of a guest blacklist for owners.

We have to totally agree with the necessity of taking a damage/cleaning deposit. We spend our Summer caretaking for many English owned holiday homes and we are finding that the standard of cleaning being done by the guests on departure is getting worse. It seems a sad sign of the times that standards are dropping. We find particularly that often it is the two families with small children who are unable, or unwilling, to clean up after themselves. Damage to property is often hidden or covered up thinking that we will not notice it - believe me, we do!! So please take care of the property you are renting, it is someone's home and there will be people coming in after you who will also want to enjoy the property at its best.

I lived there for many wonderful months. We had an apartment in the Maison de Conseils, which was built in the 13th century. All of the people in the building were very friendly. There was an antique store on the garden level. We used to watch the unique way he had of restoring the antiques. There was a great dane in the building that slobbered all over us, but was owned by a cute lady with leopard pants. The holistic doctor that lived there invited us for Christmas.

We used to go for walks along the river. Some of the trails were tree-lined and full of chestnuts. There were pastries in the plaza and great marches on weekends for shopping. I had a wonderful time in the Dordogne. I would definitely go back for a weekend with my whole family.
